In fact, every year, chocolate sales around the world contribute a massive $83billion to the global economy.
Ever since chocolate’s humble beginnings in pre-modern Latin America (where the cacao bean was used as currency) – chocolate has grown to become one of life’s most loved luxuries.
And on our humble island, chocolate plays a major part in our lifestyles.
The UK is the 7th highest consumer of chocolate in the world (4th in Europe). That means for every Brit, 8.4kg of the sweet stuff was consumed in 2017.
If you’re wondering who takes first place – you guessed already. Switzerland. In fact, 40% of the world’s chocolate is consumed right here in Europe.
We do have sweet teeth after all.
